At HMI, we offer comprehensive health care services, ranging from short-term convalescent care to ongoing management of chronic illness.

HMI’s multi-disciplinary team of health professionals is trained to provide the following home health care services:

Skilled Nursing

Our Skilled Registered Nurses (RNs) have the primary responsibility for a patient’s care. Among the services they provide are the following:

  • Evaluating the patient’s condition
  • Providing care, support and advice
  • Teaching the patient and family about their medication and its proper use
  • Monitoring the patient’s infusion therapy, if applicable
  • Treating any wounds
  • Teaching the patient to manage their illness and prevent complications
  • Supervise the Home Health Aide (HHA) or Personal Care Aide (PCA)

Physical Therapy

HMI’s Physical Therapists (PTs) develop exercises and other therapies to help patients regain as much mobility as possible. Their services include:

  • Helping the patient re-train their muscles
  • Showing the patient and family the best ways to move for healing
  • Strengthening painful or weak muscles with special exercises
  • Teaching the patient the safest and most efficient way to manage a cane, walker, or wheelchair

Occupational Therapy

Our Occupational Therapists (OTs) help patients re-learn basic tasks by:

  • Showing the patient how to exercise weak arms and hands
  • Enhancing the patient’s independence by training them in bathing, dressing, feeding and toileting
  • Teaching the patient how to safely carry out routine household chores

Venipuncture Services

Our venipuncture specialists are trained to gently and efficiently draw blood, usually for laboratory purposes.

  • Blood drawn in the convenience of your own home by a trained RN
  • Laboratory results sent to physician’s office within 24 hours

Laboratory Services

Our laboratory facilities provide fast and accurate results for a range of tests.

  • Tests done in the convenience of your own home by a trained RN
  • Laboratory results sent to physician’s office within 24 hours

Intravenous Therapy

Our intravenous therapy is administered by experts in infusing therapeutic liquids into the veins.

  • Administered via Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) or peripheral IV
  • Removed by the RN after completion of IV therapy

Home Health Aides

Our Home Health Aides (HHAs) assist patients with activities of daily living, including:

  • Helping with personal care (bathing, dressing, shampooing, brushing teeth, and toileting)
  • Assisting when a patient is moved, such as transferred from bed to chair
  • Performing various chores related to a patient’s personal care
  • Simple dressing changes as prescribed and that do not require the care of a nurse

Personal Care Aides

HMI provides personal care aides (PCAs) in agreement with the D.C. Department of Health for homebound patients. Among their services are the following:

  • Personal care (bathing, dressing, shampooing, brushing teeth, toileting)
  • Assisting the patient with transfer, ambulation, and exercise as prescribed
  • Meal preparation and assistance with eating
  • Laundry services and light housekeeping in patient’s primary area(s)
  • Shopping for groceries and medication
  • Assisting the patient in running errands

Their expertise includes up-to-date knowledge of the latest techniques in home health care treatment. They also demonstrate a genuine compassion in their care, and are willing to go beyond administering ordinary treatment to give people the loving concern they need during a time of illness or incapacitation.
